Variable Armour Carrier (VAC)

Is the most versatile carrier in the SORD armour carrier range. It can be worn as a plate carrier offering protection to the front and rear, cutting weight and profile. With wings and soft armour inserts added they incorporate the plate carrier set up into a full armour carrier. The sides can be added or subtracted as the user requires. The side wings can hold soft armour inserts as well as small hard plates.

With the single jettison handle quick system cut-away is achieved in emergency casualty access, maritime / aircraft accident, WMD decontamination situations. The four cable jettison system activates much faster and more effectively than previous designs. Milspec mesh material has been used as the backing face to reduce weight and provide breathability of the armour in hot environments to avoid mildew build up. Sagging of the cummerbund has been eliminated with the addition of a fold-over Velcro sandwich on either side that transfers weight on a vertical axis as opposed to the older standard Velcro wrap that peels off under weight.

The Enhanced Releasable Armour Carrier (ERAC) is the next generation of fully modular armour carriage systems. Ballistic protection is achieved with overlapping front and back soft armour inserts combined with ceramic plates in separate adjustable sleeves. ERAC is size adjustable for both width and height. The front release handle is centrally located for operation with both hands pushed down the centre line towards the belt. When not in use it remains stuck flat in place via Velcro out of the way. All four coated steel cables are enclosed for protection.

The safety flap for the release handle is pictured in it's 'Safe' position where the handle sits flush against the armour cover remaining snag free and protected.

A large carriage / casualty evacuation drag handle has been incorporated into the rear panel. Constructed of heavily reinforced nylon webbing it will not tear or break free under stress.

The Original Variable Armour Carrier (OVAC) is a new approach to plate carriers.

The versatile platform allows the operator to run it with either full side wings when the need for increased load carriage is required, or for a lighter platform the wings (sized S, M, L and XL) can be removed and replaced with low profile straps. This is a non-releasable vest and is accessed via a full front flap when used with the wings, or with the wings removed, through side accessed clips

This modularity allows the user to scale up and down the vest to reflect their mission parameters and can be quickly changed from one set up to another in a very short period of time. The front section of the vest is designed to be an ‘operator’ cut. By this we mean that the upper portion of the vest is narrow to allow isosceles and weaver stances when deploying secondary firearms. This means no more bruises on the inner side of your biceps from trying to force your vest to comply with your chosen stance.

The OVAC will accept both plates and ballistic liner. The main body is cushioned with air mesh. This allows the heat created by wearing the OVAC to be comfortably dissipated away from the body and also provides comfortable padding for long term wear. The lining also means no more sweaty and slimy material against the body so you can maintain your cool and comfort when all around are loosing theirs.

The Chest Rig Front is designed as a low profile, high riding assault platform that wraps around under the arms. Adjustable shoulder and back straps, the chest rig front can be worn over armour covers, over jackets, wet suits or a t-shirt. Accommodation has been provided for a trauma plate behind the bib for added protection if utilized. A Velcro sandwich has also been added so items like the Drop Gas Bag can be added. Replace the shoulder straps for the Chest Rig Back and you have a fully modular front and back assault vest on your hands.
